Bio-Rad Laboratories and Cornell Research Foundation, Cornell
University's patents and licensing arm, have announced an exclusive
worldwide licensing agreement for the development of 2-photon
     microscopy systems.

2-photon microscopy was first demonstrated by Professor Watt W. Webb
with Winfried Denk and James Strickler at Cornell in 1990.
Applications and characterisation of the technique have subsequently
confirmed its importance for live cell microscopy where it opens up
experimental possibilities impossible by any other method. Important
application areas include neuroscience, cell physiology and cell
     development.

Commercial development of 2-photon systems will be the responsibility
of the Microscopy Division of Bio-Rad based in Hemel Hempstead, UK.
This Division pioneered the development of confocal laser scanning
microscopes for biomedical research, working in close collaboration
with the Laboratory of Molecular Biology of the UK Medical Research
     Council.
