Guy brings up some good points and, just to add or clarify, asking what a
confocal costs is kind of like asking what a new car or house costs.
Initial costs and add-ons are dependant on such factors as:

1) What kind of confocal are you getting? (spinning disk, laser, etc.)
2) What are your applications?
3) What equipment do you already own (if any) that you are adding on to?
(i.e. Computer, microscope, digital camera, software, etc.)
4) What fluorochromes will you be using?
5) What kind of support/ongoing maintenance will you need?

Just to name a few. A good system integrator should be able to ask and
explain all of these and you should never purchase anything with which you
are not familiar nor comfortable, and you should have explained to you and
understand every line item on the quote.

Hope that helps,

Jim
