George,

We have an Observer Z1 with a 1x optovar inside. I tried viewing a sample as you suggested and I did not see anything through an empty objective hole...

I suspect that the optovar does not actually form an image? Correct me if I am wrong.

Hi Jeremy,

if your microscope has an optovar built in to the stand, use an empty position with the optovar in place.
