Open position for Junior Microscopy Technician at the Molecular Cytology Core Facility, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Molecular Cytology Core Facility (MCCF) at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center seeks to hire a Junior Digital Microscopy Technician to support our daily operation. The position requires competency for use of imaging modalities in diverse research projects.  MCCF is equipped with state-of-the-art optical imaging systems, including Leica SP5 and SP8 confocal microscopes, Zeiss LSM880 with AiryScan and widefield microscopes, digital slide scanners and also an Atomic Force Microscope.  The widefield and confocal systems are equipped for long-term live imaging. The image analysis software includes Imaris, FIJI/ImageJ, Voloom/MicroDimensions, MatLab, etc. The new team member is expected to work with image processing and image analysis in the dynamic environment of basic and clinical researchers.

Responsibilities:

  *  Teaching, training and assisting researchers to use imaging equipment and acquire data
  *  Assisting in image processing and analysis of data
  *  Maintain, calibrate, and monitor performance of imaging systems to ensure smooth operation
  *  Stay informed with hardware and software advances in optical microscopy
  *  Work in collaborative settings
  *  Assists with scheduling and billing
Qualifications and Skills:

  *  Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field
  *  Basic experience with optical microscopy
  *  Experience with image analysis software would be a plus
  *  Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  *    Ability to work in a team environment but also independently
  *  Strong organizational skills, flexibility in working hours and ability to multi-task
  *  Passion for learning and problem solving
