Optical Imaging & Microscopy Platform Technician

Champalimaud Research has an open position for a Microscopy Technician for the Optical Imaging & Microscopy Platform that will support the various research areas in the center. We are looking for highly motivated individuals who are enthusiastic about a career in science but are seeking beyond a traditional academic or lab head position. As Microscopy Platform Technician, you will work at the interface of cutting edge technology and high-impact research, driving novel solutions to technical problems. You will have access to a variety of advanced facilities and technical resources. You should be eager to contribute to an intensely collaborative environment and enjoy the challenge of participating deeply in diverse scientific projects.
The platform supports all Champalimaud Research laboratories, providing comprehensive training for the independent use of widefield, confocal, lightsheet and other fluorescence microscopy systems. The Microscopy Platform Technician will be responsible for maintaining state-of-the-art microscopy systems in support of the scientific research activities of the Champalimaud research and collaborating partners. Currently the main resources of the Platform include a Zeiss AxioScan Z1, a Zeiss LightSheet Z1, a Zeiss LSM 710 as well as fluorescence widefield systems, stereo microscopes and brightfield microscopes.

The Microscopy Platform Technician is expected to:
- Provide individual training and technical support, including assistance with experimental design and advice on sample preparation, in using confocal, widefield and lightsheet microscopes
- Provide individual support in the use of image analysis software
- Manage technical maintenance and service contracts
- Manage microscopy systems reservations in iLab and system usage rules
- Perform system maintenance and troubleshooting 
- Perform other duties as requested by the Research Directors and designated principal investigators

Requirements:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical engineering, Biological Sciences or related field.
- Minimum of two years of independent hands-on experience in Microscopy

Desired skills 
- Experience in operating confocal and widefield microscopy systems
- Previous working experience in a microscopy platform is desirable, but not mandatory
- Fluent written and spoken English
This position will receive a competitive compensation package subject to skills and experience.
