The Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute seeks qualified candidates for the Director, Microscopy and Cellular Imaging Research Core position in the Office of the President. The Director will oversee the day-to-day management of the Microscopy and Cellular Imaging Core facilities and the affiliated Cell and Molecular Biology Research Core.
Reporting to the Director of Operations for CBIS, the Director, Microscopy and Cellular Imaging Research Core will maintain instruments and equipment, organize and conduct user training, assist investigators with equipment use and with the development of research protocols and funding proposals. The incumbent is expected to remain current with the latest advances in microscopy, imaging and cell biology through interactions with vendors and conference attendance. The incumbent also will manage the billing and financial aspects of the Core. The Director will be expected to participate actively in faculty research activities using the Cores and to identify and submit grant submissions for relevant research and equipment funding opportunities.   The Director also will assist, as needed, with the research operations of the adjacent stem cell research center.
Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) in a Life Sciences discipline and at least three (3) years of direct experience with advanced microscopy and cellular imaging research.  A Ph.D. in a life science field is preferred with extensive experience with confocal and multiphoton microscopy as well as the use and administration of image analysis software and archiving systems.  The successful candidate will have familiarity with one or more of the following systems: FACS, AFM, TIRF, optical tweezers or micro-CT.  Basic knowledge of histology and molecular biology cell preparatory techniques is expected.
