In the previous posting of the ANNOUNCEMENT of the

3-D IMAGING SCIENCES CONFERENCE OXFORD 15-17 APRIL 1996

the asci code for the English Pound sign was transmitted as "A3".
Correcting for that the basic conference fee is therefore English Pound 165
with reduction for early payment etc as detailed in the corrected version
of the announcement as given below:

ANNOUNCEMENT

3-D IMAGING SCIENCES CONFERENCE
OXFORD 15-17 APRIL 1996

3D microscopy, especially with confocal image collection, plays an
increasingly important role in material and medical/biological
sciences, especially for the observation of live objects in 3
dimensions in real-time. Effective use of these images, requires 3D
image processing and rendering, optimally also in real-time. The field
has seen a tremendous development since its origin in the beginning of
the eighties.
The series of 3D conferences of which the present is the 8th has
played an important role in the growth of the field by providing not
only a forum for the developers of these techniques but also by its
specific aim of bringing them together with the users of these
techniques. Also developments of importance to 3D microscopy are
followed. This year we will devote special attention to near-field
optical microscopy- often done in conjunction with scanning force
microscopy-. The 3D and near-field microscopy have a common ground in
the fascinating developments taking place in the identification and
measurement of the properties of individual fluorescent molecules.
Developments which hold great promise for the high sensitivity
fluorescence imaging in microscopy in general but especially for
application in so-called 4D - 3D plus time - imaging.

Organisers are The Royal Microscopical Society and the 3D Society for
3D Imaging in Microscopy. Direct organisers on behalf of the latter
society are T. Wilson, A. Kriete and G.J. Brakenhoff.

Founding members of this Society are a.o. C.J.R. Sheppard, ,
K. Carlsson, E.H.K. Steltzer.

This international meeting will bring together experts in these fields
and contributions are invited in the areas indicated, In order to be
able to include the most recent developments the closing date for
contributions has been put as late as possible; 31 Jan. 1996, with
the final program coming available beginning of March.

SESSION TOPICS WILL INCLUDE:

Image acquisition and processing
*       3D image formation
* Instrumentation for confocal and 3D microscopy

FORMAT
The format of the conference will be based on a mixture of invited
lectures and selected oral and poster presentations from the fields
indicated by the scientific program and related areas. An abstract
book will be provided at the conference. A special issue of the
Journal of Microscopy is planned containing refereed papers presented
at the conference. An extensive technical exhibition will be held
during the conference.

LOCATION

All oral and poster sessions will be held at the Dept. of Zoology,
University of Oxford, South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3PS.

ORGANIZERS: T. Wilson A. Kriete G.J. Brakenhoff

ABSTRACTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS

The size of submitted abstracts must fit into a square of 17 by 12 cms
and they must be no longer than 300 words.
In order to be able to include the most recent developements, the
deadline for submitting contributions has been set as late as
possible; 31 Jan. 1996, with a final program coming available
beginning of March.

CONFERENCE FEE

The conference fee is English Pound 165,- and includes participation in the
social events, abstract book, lunches and refreshments during breaks. A
reduced fee of English Pound 145,- is available for pay ments received before 31
jan. 1996

ACCOMODATION.

A limited number of rooms have been reserved at near-by St. Anne's
College. The costs for bed and breakfast for three nights for the
period 14, 25, 216 April will be English Pound 99.00 for a basic student
room and
