Slide Makers
I have been using digital slide cameras for about 6 years. I recently purchased
a new one Lasergraphics Personal (about $6500). This camera gives excellent
4000 line slides fairly quickly. It runs from a windows driver, but a raster
driver is available. I tried the Polaroid and it was OK, but not as nice as
the Lasergraphics (it was a couple thousand $ cheaper too). I take data from
both flow cytometry (histograms, dot plots, etc), stats and graph packages,
slide scans (tiffs, targa, pcx, etc), confocal images, etc and print slides
using Microsoft Powerpoint. I am very happy with the results. As an added
benefit to using the combination of packages, I can produce really nice color
prints on the Codonics NP1600 dye sub printer by sending the slide output to
postscript and sendinf the PS output by FTP to the printer. We also can take
output from the Silicon Graphics to Powerpoint via tif for inclusion in slides.
Since everything is on a network the process is quite easy.
