Yes, you can see fluorescence with a 0.5x Objective! The Objective has
an n.a. of .02 and a w.d. of 7mm. I have successfully seen G.F.P. with
this lens using a typical broad band excitation filter (450-490nm) and
HBO 100W illumination. Moreover, my colleague Charles Fanghella was
stating that this same lens has been incorporated in our PCM-2000
Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope and renders outstanding images over
the largest area with no problems; Argon Laser with 488nm filter.
