The most common (and practically the only) red dye in wide use is Cy5 (BDS), it
is the principle reason investigators buy Ar/Kr lasers and is excited quite well
with the 647 line.  The dye works well and the literature is growing (Martin?) any
"red enhanced" PMT will work I can ask an engineer if you need more specifics.
