Subject: Usage Tracking Program
Search the CONFOCAL archive at
http://listserv.acsu.buffalo.edu/cgi-bin/wa?S1=confocal
I've developed an Usage tracking app that pops up during user logon and
locks mouse to a tracking form such that the user cannot access other
programs. The user must fill in predefined fields such as name,
department, principle investigator and also requires that the user enter
an account number that is validated against a database (database
configured by core/equipment manager). Once all data is validated the
user is allowed to startup acquisition software. When the user exits
the
acquisition software the time of usage as well as previously filled in
fields are sent to a local excel logsheet and the user is automatically
logged off. The software runs on Windows 98/NT/2000/XP. I currently
have
the software tracking usage on 6 PC's attached to wide-field scopes, 2
PC's attached to Leica confocals, and 3 PC's running Biorad iCyclers.
Finally I have a database manager app that gathers all locally saved
logsheets (over a network) and compiles them into one for monthly or
quartely accounting. I'm trying to gauge the value of this software and
it's demand...anyone interested???
