Hi Gary,
At our core we have used 100% EtOH, Sparkle, as well as chloroform for solutions to clean some lenses. For large lenses, I have found that Chloroform followed by Sparkle is best, using either glueless cotton swabs and or TexSwipes to apply the solution in a spiral pattern starting from the middle of the lens. If some solution remains, I use a hand air blaster (we call a fus-fus) to facilitate evaporation followed by an assessment and repeat if necessary. You can use a kimwipe and chloroform or ethanol to clean the exterior of the lenses, although you may want to be conservative with the amount of the solution you use.
I've included a list of materials that I use for performing microscope maintenance. Within the document I highlighted a few of the items that I mentioned above.
Happy to chat more and make any clarifications if necessary.

Hi All,
We have 15 Leica S8APO stereo dissecting microscopes in our teaching lab, all of which need a good optics cleaning and cleaning of their optics carriers.
What say the masses?
Thanks
Best,
Gary
