Regarding Y.S. Prakash's lengthy but enlightening spiel on optical disks and file compression, you can get some of the compression sw he mentioned via ftp at lambda.gene.cinvestav.mx (148.247.13.1) in directory pub/msdos/software/filecomp. There's some other biology stuff at the site as well. Might as well check out http://www.gene.cinvestav.mx/ciea.html and http://www.gene.cinvestav.mx/uabe.html while you're at it.
