Dr. Hellerman,
Calcein is a reagent used to measure intracellular iron levels, but it has
been known to bind to other divalent cations. I think it's membrane
permeable, so it I don't think you could use it to see lysosomal levels,
though. That is, if it works for cadmium at all.

Subject: Cadmium tracking
Good morning all,
I am initiating a project on the effects of metal
pollutants on lung epithelial cells and i would like
to know if anyone has experience in tracking cadmium
entry into cells? Does Fura2 work with cadmium? Is
there any other fluorescent tag that can be used to
follow cadmium from cell-surface binding thru
endocytosis into lysosomes? Is there a good lysosomal
marker? Your help is greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Gary Hellermann, PhD
