Our faciliy runs COMOS under Windows95 with excellent results. Installing
Windows95 was easy (30 minutes) and after almost a year of operation not a
single crash or problem. Users tend to save their files directly on a
server that shares its directories with the confocal computer. Thus we do
not loose any machine time transferring images after a session. (Some users
even start image processing during the collection of huge z-series.)
An additional bonus is that Windows95 allows to run two copies of COMOS at
the same time. This allows us to run COMOS and MPL simmultaneously.
Switching between the two programs just requires to press the alt tab key
combination which is much faster than the extremly slow normal startup
procedure. (I tried to do the same trick under OS/2 but without success.)
Unfortunatley crashes during this operation mode might occur when
conflicting commands are given.
I would very keen to know if WindowsNT has the same functionality.
Regarding the upgrade to MRC-1024: I guess we will wait until BioRad
changes to WindowsNT.
