                      FLUORESCENCE  IMAGING
                            WORKSHOP
                       1-4th OCTOBER, 1992

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOLOGY, THE UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE,
                         AUSTRALIA.

 The workshop will provide an introduction to the use of
fluorescent dyes as intracellular and extracellular markers. A
range of dyes will be used including those sensitive to ions,
electrical potential and cellular proteins as well as markers for
intracellular organelles and membrane-bound receptors.

 The emphasis of the course will be on signal acquisition and
quantitative analysis of probes within or bound to cells using
isolated cells and multicellular preparations.

     Topics to be covered will include:
     * Selection and properties of fluorescent probes
     *    Loading and calibration procedures
     *    Illuminators and detectors
     * Digital image analysis and processing
     *    Confocal microscopy
     *    3-dimensional imaging

 Commercial vendors will provide equipment and expertise
additional to that available within our laboratories. The
number of registrants will be limited according to the equipment
available to ensure adequate time for instruction and
experimentation using a variety of systems, cells and probes.

 The registration fee will be $250 ($150 for enrolled
students).

 We invite anyone interested in attending this workshop to write
before February 29 to:
