I've been using Ludl equipment for years. They're pretty trivial to control
via the serial port. I'd suggest you just contact Ludl for their programming
manual and find somebody to whip up a simple Visual Basic program to read
the desired values.

The only problem you might have is that if you're trying to do this at the
same time that the MD software is running, Windows (if that's what you're
using) won't allow two programs to access the same serial port
simultaneously. If this is the case, then the only way you're going to be
able to do what you want is to get a patch from MD for their software.

Good luck.

Their web site can be found at: http://www.ludl.com

Subject: xy stage position

I'm looking for an application, or even just a command, that will report
the x-y stage position on our MD confocal which has an LEP MAC 2000
controller. We had a beta-version of a "stage" application, but this was
lost when we had to reformat our hard drive (separate incident). MD has
been kind enough to send us the same beta source code they sent
originally (many years ago), but we've had problems getting it to
compile,
and understandably, this app is not under contract.

I'd love a working app, if anyone could help or point me in the right
direction, but i'd be satisfied with some way to just get the stage
position.

Thanks for your help!
