The multi-lab neuroscience group in the Department of Neuroscience, University 
of Lethbridge is recruiting for an Assistant or Associate Specialist to work on 
the imaging aspects of the study of the nervous system. The University of 
Lethbridge is a world class research facility that has the only Neuroscience 
Department in Canada, including some of the top researchers in the area.

Responsibilities:
The Optical/Imaging Specialist will work within the neuroscience groups at the 
Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience (CCBN) One primary goal will be 
customizing optical systems for specific research projects, including design and 
maintenance of basic and advanced optical/imaging systems (including lasers 
and various types of Microscopy setups). Working under the supervision of Dr. 
Majid Mohajerani, this person will also assist and train users to operate a wide 
range of optical imaging technologies. The CCBN houses several advanced 
technology microscopes, including two-photon, confocal microscopes, voltage 
sensitive dye imaging systems, and a variety of laser illumination sources, and 
spectral detection.

Qualifications:
Master degree in Science or Engineering required with 1-3 years of experience, 
or a PhD's Degree in Science or Engineering preferred. Laboratory skills in 
various optical, confocal and scanning probe microscopy techniques, lasers, 
optical benches, electronics, and software (Labview, Matlab, or Igor) are highly 
desirable. The candidate should be self-motivated with a strong desire to 
acquire on-the-job training and to develop intellectual and practical 
professional skills. Demonstrated ability to work well in teams, good 
communication and record keeping skills are essential. The salary will be 
competitive and commensurate with the postholder’s experience.
