Dear microscopists,,

We are looking for a new team member in our Imaging Core Facility at the Biozentrum in Basel, Switzerland.
Entry-level position (80 - 100%) for Technical / Scientific Staff at the Imaging Core Facility (IMCF) of the Biozentrum, University of Basel

Starting 1 December 2022 or as per agreement

The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading life sciences institutes in the world. It consists of 32 groups and 500 employees that research how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birthplace of many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates.

The Imaging Core Facility (IMCF) of the Biozentrum of the University of Basel is offering a position to a young scientist to enter the field of modern high-end light microscopy.

Your responsibilities
The candidate will support the IMCF by maintaining different state of the art wide-field, confocal, spinning disk, lightsheet (live-cell and cleared samples), multiplexed (seqFISH), and super-resolution (SIM, STORM/PALM) microscopes; will mainly contribute to user training at microscopes and to a lesser extend to image analysis; and will participate in the teaching program of the IMCF. Further information regarding the facility including the detailed list of equipment can be found at https://www.biozentrum.unibas.ch/imcf/

Your profile
We are looking for an enthusiastic person with a technical or research background that combines solid technical expertise with strong communication skills. Suitable candidates are expected to have a university degree in life sciences or physics (master or PhD) and possess practical experience in at least two or more of the following fields: Optics, light microscopy techniques (widefield and/or confocal), live cell imaging. A good knowledge in image processing will be a plus.
The applicant should be rigorous, reliable, well organized and have the flexibility needed for working in a service-oriented context. Good communication skills in English and the ability to operate as a team player in a multi-disciplinary environment are required.

We offer
The Biozentrum offers cutting-edge research infrastructures, a highly international environment, and excellent working conditions. Salary and benefits are according to University of Basel standards.
The position offers an ideal entry point into working in a microscopy facility environment. It is initially for one year with the possibility of further extension. The preferred starting date is December 2022 but can be negotiated.

Application / Contact
Please apply online with a full, up-to-date CV, list of publications, short summary of microscopy experience so far with a list of microscope systems and software, at least one reference letter as well as a motivation letter: https://biped2.biozentrum.unibas.ch/apply/imcf_techstaff
