From a later msg, it appears VoxBlast is also supported on Macs. Why
don't you request the Mac demo CD and we can see how it performs on
mhy lowly 225MHz machine.

We at VayTek, Inc., are a distributor of the Imaris software for the
US and Canada as well as the developer of our own 3-D software,
VoxBlast. We are also very familiar with VoxelView, more on that in a
moment. The Imaris software is a very well designed high-end user
graphics volume visualization software that curently sells for about
$13,500. I can send you some literature as well as a demo CD that
should allow you to sample the Imaris program for about 30 days.
Additionally, as I stated earlier, we are a software developer and
have our own 3-D volume visualization and measurement package,
VoxBlast. For the SGI, this software only product sells for $7995 (or
at a 1/3 discount if you are a VoxelView user). We also have a free
demo version of this software that you can try out from the internet
that is locked to a heart data set. For instructions on how to
download this demo program or for more information about our company

With regards to VoxelView and Vital Images it should be noted that
they no longer support development of their product with regards to
the microscopy field. In the period of time that their product
received FDA approval as a diagnostic tool, they have raised their
price by about two-fold (to about $30K). We have had many former
VoxelView customers approach us about their 3-D problems (because
functionally our two products are very similar) and ask if they could
trade in their product with some credit for our product. Therefore we
decided to offer their customers 1/3 discount towards the purchase of
our product.
As for a comparison between these various 3-D software packages, our
product like VoxelView, although having excellent visualization
capabilites, has more quantitative features than the Imaris program
which is geared more towards confocal users and takes advantage of
the graphics capabilities of the SGI platform moreso than our product
or VoxelView. Furthermore both Imaris and VoxBlast are software only
products whereas VoxelView has a hardware accelerator board which
means that when SGI operating systems change (which is rather often)
there is often a delay in reconfiguring their software to accomodate
these changes. This is not the case with VoxBlast or Imaris.
Finally I wanted to suggest that if you are in the market for an SGI
machine and 3-D software such as Imaris or VoxBlast, then we may be
in an excellent position to offer you a very good deal. We have an
extra SGI Indigo II, High Impact, 250mhz,128 MB RAM, 2 GB HD, CD-ROM,
4mmDAT drive, with network software for internet access and file
transfer that is in excellent condition, that as is, with our 3-D
software, we could sell for $35,000 (would not include IMARIS). If
you are interested in this system then please contact me for further
information and details. In any event if you would like to receive

We are considering getting a Silicon Graphics workstation in
conjunction with the 'Imaris' image processing software.
I'd be interesting in hearing some opinions on the computer system as
well as the software.
If you use and are happy with other 3-D software I also appreciate
hearing about that as well.
