Bio-Rad has been in the 'lower cost' confocal market now for two and a
half years with the MicroRadiance. These systems use the same optical
design as our fully configurable and upgradable Radiance2000 systems
and as a result give no compromise imaging performance at a lower
     cost.

The key features of the MicroRadiance are:

     - Single or dual channel models

     - Simultaneous acquisition of two flurescence signals and transmitted
     light

     - Separate confocal apertures for each detector

     - Adaptable to an enormous range of microscopes

     - Fully computer controlled (no knobs and levers)

     - Permanently aligned optics

Please contact me directly if you need more information on the
MicroRadiance confocal imaging systems. Alternatively, take a look at
     our web site at www.microscopy.bio-rad.com.

     Best regards

Saw one for a day at a recent workshop. Two-channel setup, AOM (akin to an
AOTF but slightly less utilitarian), 3D package. I was quite impressed
given the ballpark price of 150K. I would be interested in hearing about
Olympus setups - don't they have a "budget" unit as well? Who else is in
this market besides Zeiss and Nikon?
