The fact is that there are many ways to do this and different microscopists
do it different ways.  I would stay away from ether as it can explode.
Kimwipes should only be used, if you don't touch the lens, but roll it over
the lens with a liquid between the lenspaper or kimwipe.  The cotton swab
seems to have become more popular in the last few years.  It should not be
ground into the lens and it should be clean and used only in one swipe
across the lens.  Nina Allen
