Hi Stan,

These newer camera modes allow for operation similar to global shutter,
while maintaining the advantages (lower noise, higher QE) of rolling
shutter. However, to take advantage of these modes, one needs a very fast
shutter.

In some cases, the shutter needs to cycle in less than 1ms.  This can only
be practically achieved using a solid-state light source with "electronic
shuttering." These sources allow for the speed, and durability requirements
to successfully sync with these shutter modes.  Obviously, the source also
need to have a TTL circuit capable of the same speeds.

Among white light sources, the X-Cite 120LED
(http://www.ldgi.com/x-cite/120led/) can cycle in 500us.   For switchable
LEDs, the X-Cite XLED1 (http://www.ldgi.com/x-cite/xled1/) has a very robust
triggering system, and can cycle in only 10 us.
