Subject: Pinnacle drive problems

Hello Larry,

I got your message as a forward from another user... We have had almost
exactly the same set of problems as you describe. Our situation is even
worse because we use unix to run the CD ROM burner and there is precious
little out there. Our initial investment was approximately $3,000
(Canadian) for the drive and the software.

I talked with a person in the repair place - who shall remain nameless -
who told me that the pinnacle company did not care about their quality
control and that the company was basically going bankrupt... I was more
than a little distressed, but that made the decision on repair versus
replacement for me... There are many other drives available that do not
seem to be so eager to rip their customers off... All I have done to
date is to notify my local computer stores and the University purchasing
office to insure that no one else locally gets screwed.

A new drive will cost me about $700 CDN while repair of the pinnacle
will be $500+ shipping and the attendant hassles of dealing with
pinnacle...

I wish my news was better, but I hope this helps you with your
decision-making process....

Good luck,

Roger Pierson
