You might want to consider the DNA-specific stain DRAQ5
(available from Biostatus Ltd., UK).  It would be excitable at 638
nm (optimal is 647nm but it worked for us at 633nm) and emits
from 670nm to the low infra-red.  It is cell permeant so it can be
used in both live and fixed cells, although I have no experience in
using it with whole tissues.  Still, it might be worth a try and could
save you the RNAsing.
