Following the report of a Cattle Egret by Doug Kieser I traveled last
evening (7 PM: 7/18/15) to the Fairfax WTP. After searching the many
lagoons I was about to give up when I saw it flying at the far southern end
of the main lagoon. It hawked insects for awhile then headed south out of
sight.
Further south on Hwy 4 just north off the MN river bridge into Brown Cty. I
scoped the wetland on the east side of the road. I nice diversity of
shorebirds including three Short-billed Dowitchers, both yellowlegs, two
Wilson's Phalaropes, and assorted others. Extensive mudflats that should
yield good viewing with a scope for awhile.
