The Queen's University Cancer Research Institute is at an exciting time in
its history. The future looks bright with a large new addition being
constructed and more research initiatives than ever before. You can be a
part of this excitement as we have an immediate opening for a flow
cytometry and confocal microscopy facility manager.
Responsibilities for the position include performing analyses, sorting,
experimental design, trouble shooting, training and various administrative
duties associated with the operation of the facility.
The facility is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment.
-Beckman Coulter Epics ALTRA with Hypersort and multiple laser platform
(Argon, Argon/Krypton)
-Leica SP2 confocal with multiphoton capability
-Fully motorized live cell imaging with deconvolution and microinjection
-An assortment of routine fluorescence microscopes
This facility is the sole provider for these services on the campus and as
such will provide a diverse range of challenges.
We are in search of someone who is a self starter and can effectively
communicate across a broad range of scientific backgrounds (human, plant,
material sciences etc...). There is a tremendous amount of flexibility in
how the position can be structured. The applicant may prefer to carry on a
component of their own research or they may prefer to focus more on the
facility and experimental development. The applicant should have at least
two years experience with flow cytometry, with the ability to sort
desirable but not essential. Training can be provided for applicants that
show an aptitude but are not fully qualified. Queen's University is an
equal opportunity empoyer.
For those not familiar with Queen's University, it is located at the mouth
of the St. Lawrence river on Lake Ontario. Queen's University is one of
Canada's oldest campuses and is well respected for its medical, business,
engineering and biology faculties. The city of Kingston is located 2 hours
east of Toronto, 2 hours south of Ottawa and 2 hours west of Montreal.
