How does the scanner work to measure a 512x512 image.

1. Does it move in discreet points across the field ( i.e 512 points
across 512 lines down) OR
2. Does it sweep across the filed with a shutter being open 512 times
each line across the field

3. Every confocal has different scanning speeds. Does this mean that the
shutter is opened less time making it go faster or is it actually going
faster/slower across a line.

4. How do you park a laser beam on a Leica SP1 system to measure the
laser beam size? Can it be done?

thanks for your help--
Bob
