This is a joke, I suppose. Each and every confocal system on
the general purpose market today is a confocal head added to a
standard microscope ... and everyone uses them as standard
microscopes as well as confocals.
But when exactly does a confocal become obsolete? Our MRC 600
(1990) is still in regular use and for some purposes (eg surface
profiling) is still better than any of our later systems (Radiance,
Leica SP2, Nikon C1).
