FOCUS ON MICROSCOPY 2005 Jena, Germany, March 20-23, 2005
18th International Conference on 3D Image Processing in Microscopy
17th International Conference on Confocal Microscopy

Dear Colleagues

January 20, 2005, the deadline for abstract submission for the Jena
conference is nearing.

Please submit your abstract by that date.

The program for the conference will be finalized and available on our
website on Febr. 5, 2005. Authors will also be informed individually by
E-mail on the placement of their contribution in the program.
Abstracts for oral and poster presentations are sollicited. Submission
preferably through the conference website:
        http://focusonmicroscopy.org/
where also the conference registration is open and hotel booking
information is available.

The earlier than usual deadline is caused by the early Easter this year as
the conference mostly takes place in the week before Easter.
The program for the Abbe symposium, opening the conference on Sunday March
20, 15.00 hrs, can be found on the website. Renowned speakers have
agreed to contribute: from Ulrich Simon on the history of "Abbe and
Jena" to Roger Tsien and A. Miyawakii on the development and
application of GFP –and spectral variants- in 2D and 3D fluorescence
microscopy.
In 2005 it will be 100 years ago that Ernst Abbe died in Jena. The
symposium is organized to honor his unique contributions to high
resolution microscopy.
As the next in a series of unique interdisciplinary meetings on advanced
light microscopy and image processing the FOM2005 conference will take
place on the University campus of the Friedrich Schiller University in the
center of Jena. Co-hosted by the Fraunhofer Institute of Biomedical
Technology (IBMT) the conference will devote this year special attention
to the use of laser light as an active tool at sub-micrometer length
scales for cell biology, nano-biotechnology and medicine. In addition
recent advances in multi-mode fluorescence and non-linear high resolution
microscopy and important developments in neighboring fields are reported.

All information on present and previous FOM conferences can be found at
the www.FocusOnMicroscopy.org website.

Welcoming you to the FOM2005 Jena conference
