I've been using Igor Pro from Wavemetrics for more than 4 years. Its a
pretty powerful (definitely more than Excel) graphing, data analysis, image
analysis and data acquisition package with a programming interface. It does
not take much to learn it, and they have excellent costumer support.
Obviously I have no commercial interest in this product.

Hi all,

Now that most journals are requiring charts/graphs to be submitted in
digital format at high resolution, we find ourselves unhappy with the
process of scanning a (bitmap) printed Excel chart at high resolution to
convert to a TIF file in photoshop. Even with high power scanning, we
observe pixelation.

I would like to purchase a user friendly graphing software that will have
the ability to creat graphs that are either in EPS format which can be
converted to TIF at the proper resolution, or that can directly create TIF
files at 1000 dpi or better. Also I would like to be able to import data
directly from Excel to generate the graph and would like it to have a full
range of graphing functions and customizations.

I've downloaded demo trials of Prism from Graph pad and Origin Lab software
and received a recommendation for Delta Graph, which looks to be the more
friendly interface but quite expensive. I would appreciate anyone else's
imput. I'm not a graphic artist, but would like to generate professional
quality work I can be proud of without having to dedicate tons of time to
learn the new program.

I look forward to hearing your comments,
Mary Ellen Pease
