On the thread of graphs, I consider Excel graphs suitable for
the lab notebook, nothing more. If you take graphic design seriously,
and you should because graphic design is what connects your data to
the eye and mind of your reader, then excell is inadequate (well, it
is possible to squeeze out some good design but it takes ages to
overcome the ugly defaults). For publications, the only thing to
paste from excell is your data table. I use Origin for making
publication graphs, and it works, but I have not compared it to other
software. And I have no commercial interest in these products (or in
anything as it happens, just a fondness for good design).
