Focus on MIcroscopy 2015, organized by Fred Wouters and Gertrude Bunt with Fred Brakenhoff, ended on April 1st in Goettingen, demonstrated to be the best conference of MIcroscopy, optical microscopy, of the World! This year the average numeber of approx. 500 participants has been surpassed with 1200 people attending.
What is unique at FOM is the common environement shared with senior scientists and young scientists including generatiuon of PhD students. They are in a unique melting pot discussing, fighting, debating, presenting posters or giving their first oral. Stefan W. Hell, “our” 2014 Nobel prize, had his first STED talk at FOM in 1994 and at FOM we were able to follow the growth of this revolutionary approach to super resolution for the NObel he shared with Eric Betzig and W.E. Moerner.
Fred and Gertrude made a miracle organizing the event for so many people and, at the very same time, preserving the characteristics and feeling of the “FOM family”. FOM is unique for starting and for growing. Poster session was really outstanding. As well, the possibility of meeting people from companies is again a great feature of FOM.
