Dear All,

We have an interesting (but also challenging) job opening at the ETH
Zurich (ScopeM), could be perhaps interesting fro you or for a colleague:

The Scientific Center for Optical and Electron Microscopy (ScopeM) is the
central technology platform of ETH Zurich and one of the leading core
facilities in Switzerland offering access to high-end electron and light
microscopy and related techniques. Although the center itself serves many
different research disciplines (physics, geology, biology, material
science, chemistry etc.) most of the light microscopy (LM) and correlative
light and electron microscopy (CLEM) efforts are concentrating on life
sciences. To strengthen our team we are looking for you as of May 1st,
2015 or upon agreement as

Staff Scientist for LM / CLEM and Teaching Coordinator (100%)

As a staff member you will support us in coordinating the novel teaching
program of ScopeM (both for EM and LM), in taking care of the maintenance
of light and electron microscopes and in training ScopeM users on the
instruments. Performing sample preparation and imaging tasks for ScopeM
users, helping the users with easier data and image processing tasks and
participating in various ScopeM research efforts (currently concentrating
around various correlative microscopy approaches) belong as well to your
broad and interesting job description. The position is initially for one
year with the option to be prolonged and the chance to become a permanent
staff position once it is established at ScopeM. The ETH Zurich offers a
cutting-edge research infrastructure, a highly international environment
and excellent working conditions.

You bring along a technical or research background in biology and / or
physics or an equivalent education in natural sciences. A PhD degree is an
advantage, but not necessary. The suitable candidate is expected to have
extensive practical experience in the following fields: optics,
light-microscopy techniques, biological TEM/SEM and EM sample preparation.
Expertise in more than one field is a big plus. Previous teaching
experience and a solid IT knowledge is expected. Image processing and/or
programming knowledge is of advantage. You should be willing to expand
your knowledge in new microscopy techniques and be ready to work in a
highly interdisciplinary environment. Good communication skills, a
customer oriented (patient and friendly) personality and solid English
knowledge are essential for the position.

For further information please contact Dr. Gabor Csucs by phone, +41 (0)79
758 21 58, or e-mail, [log in to unmask] (no applications), and
visit our website http://www.scopem.ethz.ch/.

Applications with a cover letter and full CV should be submitted online
via www.jobs.ethz.ch (ad) and addressed to: ETH Zurich, Human Resources,
Mr. Michael Wobmann, CH-8092 Zurich.
