Doug Benson (now at Inovision Corp in Research Triangle Park, North
Carolina) did a study a number of years ago while at Lou Smith's lab at
Baylor college of medicine that showed that photobleaching of FITC is pH
dependent and can actually be used as a good pH indicator.
