Hello all!

We are currently in the process of hiring a full time person to run our
confocal and image analysis resource. This person may either be at the
high technician level or at the research faculty level. Our main concern
is to get the best person for the job. We would like to find out what
kind of people are available out there right now. Would you please pass
the following facility and job description along to anyone who might be
interested? They can reply to me by E-mail ([log in to unmask]
edu). All inquiries will, of course, be kept confidential. Thanks.

FACILITY DESCRIPTION

The Vanderbilt University Medical Center Cell Imaging Resource is a
new interdisciplinary facility that provides access to and expert assistance
with a fluorescence confocal microscope and digital image analysis
hardware and software. Expert advice is available to researchers on
immunostaining, dynamic fluorescence imaging, three-dimensional image
processing, and hardcopy output of data. The confocal microscope is a
state-of-the-art Zeiss LSM410 equipped with an Ar/Kr ion laser for
excitation at 488, 568, and 647 nm. A cell perfusion chamber is available
for live cell studies (i.e. investigations of calcium, pH, membrane potential)
at room or physiological temperature. Two and three dimensional data can
be processed and analyzed both with Zeiss software and off-line on Silicon
Graphics (SGI) Indigo and Indigo2 workstations which are directly
networked to the CLSM. Image output can be obtained from the SGI
workstations by dye sublimation printer (Tektronix IISDX) or by 35 mm
camera, either print or slide film, by a digital film recorder (Focus Graphics
IS2000).

JOB DESCRIPTION

Basic Function and Responsibility

microscope and related computer analysis network of the VUMC Cell
Imaging Resource. This includes training of new users, scheduling of
microscope use, performing routine maintenance, and dissemination
of information about the capabilities and current status of the
        resource.
To maintain the image processing and networking software on the CLSM
        and Silicon Graphics workstations.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct and/or arrange for maintenance of the Zeiss LSM410.
Conduct and/or arrange for maintenance of the SGI workstations.
Consult with resource users about sample preparation, train and assist
them in the operation of the confocal microscope hardware and
software, train and assist them in data analysis and presentation.

Related Duties

Organize a monthly imaging resource users meeting
Act as an information resource house for problem solving in fluorescence
        microscopy.
Prepare yearly reports to granting agencies that support the imaging
        resource.
Provide advise on budgetary matters, such as use charges and new
        equipment needed.
Assist in the development of specifications for new equipment and
        materials.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree and some microscopy research experience is required.
An advanced degree or extensive research experience is preferable.
