Do you mean the Ethernet line that you are on is not connected to the main
line in your building yet? Can you see ANY other computer on the net and
the problem is with macs only? BTW, what does RM stand for?

No, you should not need an appletalk card. PhoneNET supports both EtherTalk
and AppleTalk.

We used to use PhoneNet in our department and from what I can remember, it
was very easy to install and use. You didn't have to deal with packets,
kernels, etc. like you do with PCTCP et.al. What PhoneNet does is provide
an interface and protocols for allowing the PC to use EtherTalk services.
I'm not sure how EtherTalk deals with data packets but it really should not
be an issue. PhoneNet is supposed to handle such data manipulations
automatically - in fact, that's it's whole purpose.
I'm a little confused as to where your problem actually lies (hardware,
software, connectivity, etc.) but if you'd give more information I'd
be happy to help you troublshoot.
