I don't know of any newsgroups which specialize in in situ applications, but
there is an annual conference on "Modern Methods in Analytical Morphology"
sponsored by Cell Vision, a journal dedicated to such techniques. Both the
conference and the journal itself are very valuable resources for techniques in
this field.
