most mailing lists discourage people sending attachments TO THE LIST. The
preferred method is to send a message saying where people who want it can
view it on the web, or download via ftp.

hmmm... cc:Mail like other LAN mail systes such as MSMail & NovellGroupwise
have a deserved reputation of not properly following Internet
standards/conventions - eg sending bounce/vacation messages to an address
from the header instead of the envelope. You might want to ask whether your
group has a plan to migrate to something else
