> The research and teaching in the 'Theoretical Biology and Phylogenetics' Section focuses on the foundations of phylogenetics, speciation mechanisms, and computer simulations of self-organizing systems.

> TASKS
> Carrying out theoretical research (model development, operationalization, testing) on micro- and macro-evolutionary species concepts; reporting the results in a number of articles in international peer-reviewed scientific journals; completing a PhD dissertation on the basis of these articles. In addition, assisting with teaching and curriculum development in foundations of biology (max 10 percent of the time).

> v First (bachelor's, undergraduate) degree in Biology or in one of the other Natural Sciences and/or in Philosophy with a specialization in Philosophy of Science
> v Interest in theoretical research on biological foundations
> v Interest in species controversies in biology
> v Proficiency in spoken and written English

> Preferred

> v Knowledge of and experience in research in phylogenetics or evolutionary biology of a particular model system (a particular genus, for example)
> v Interest in using philosophical tools to contribute to the resolution of actual scientific controversies
> v Computer skills (website, writing HTML, running simulations) and some knowledge of mathematics
> v Interest in developing computer-supported teaching in the Foundations of Biology
