Call for Applications: Summer Institute, "Practices of Individuation
and Classification in Science," 18 June to 1 July 2017, Banff,
Alberta, Canada. Junior scholars, especially graduate students and
post-doctoral fellows, are encouraged to apply. Accepted participants
will receive generous stipends to offset expenses associated with
travel and attendance. Deadline: 15 February 2017.

Call for Applications: Summer Program, "Philosophy of Science for
Underrepresented Groups," 10-14 July 2017, University of Pittsburgh.
Housing, meals, and transportation costs will be covered, and all
course materials provided. Open to undergraduates and North American
students only. Deadline: 15 March 2017.

Postdoc: 3-year postdoctoral position in applied ethics or
history/philosophy of science, University of Tübingen, starting 1
April 2017 or the earliest possible date thereafter. To apply, send
your application (CV and usual materials), including a short research
proposal for an independent research project (2-3 pp.), to Prof. Dr.
Thomas Potthast. Deadline: 28 February 2017.

Postdoc & PhD Positions: "The role of the immune system in the
maintenance and construction of the organism," beginning in
September/October 2017, under the supervision of Thomas Pradeu, CNRS
in Bordeaux. Deadline: 25 April 2017. [postdoc] / [PhD]

Cover Design: Help design a new cover for *Biology and Philosophy*!
Submit any appropriate work that you have created and which you think
appropriately captures the journal to editor Michael Weisberg at

subscription to the journal and several books from Springer Nature.
Deadline: 1 March 2017.

Prize: The first recipient of the Everett Mendelssohn Prize from the
*Journal of the History of Biology* is Rachel Mason Dentinger, for her
article "Patterns of Infection and Patterns of Evolution: How a
Malaria Parasite Brought 'Monkeys and Man' Closer Together in the
1960s." It is freely available online at

New Translation: The British Society for the History of Science is
delighted to announce the publication online of a new translation with
commentary of Gregor Mendel's landmark 1866 paper "Experiments on
Plant Hybrids." The new translation and commentary are the work of Dr.
Staffan Mueller-Wille (Exeter) and Dr. Kersten Hall (Leeds), in
collaboration with Michel Durinx from Centimedia.
