Symposium "Navigating the Changing Landscape," April 28-30, 2008 in

2. Call for papers for the new journal [mensch]: International 
Journal for Philosophical Anthropology.  [mensch] poses the question 
of "the human," taking into view the widest possible range of 
theoretical approaches: philosophical, historical, political, 
sociological, cultural, medical, biological, cybernetic, and 
anthropological.

3. Call for papers for "Graphing Genes, Cells and Embryos II. 
Cultures of Seeing 3D and Beyond," a workshop hosted by Max Planck 
Institute for the History of Science, Berlin, June 11-15, 2008. 
Following a workshop recently held in Naples (May 2007), this second 
meeting will focus on elaborated analyses of how the life sciences 
visually mastered to manifest the dimensionalities living organisms 
exhibit when taking shape. Deadline for abstracts: February 15, 2008.

4. Call for abstracts and papers for "Artificial Life XI: The 
Eleventh International Conference on the Simulation and Synthesis of 
Living Systems," 5th - 8th August 2008, Winchester, UK.  Artificial 
life investigates the fundamental properties of living systems 
through simulating and synthesizing biological entities and processes 
in artificial media.  A themed session on Philosophical Issues is 
scheduled.  Deadline for papers: 29 February 2008.  Deadline for 
abstracts: 25 April 2008.

5. Franklin & Marshall College invites applications for two one-year 
faculty appointments in Environmental Studies/History and 
Environmental Science as Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor, 
beginning in August 2008.  Review of applications will begin on 
February 29, 2008 and continue until the positions are filled.

6. Call for papers and panels for the Inaugural World Conference: 
Ideology and Discourse Analysis (IDA): "Rethinking Political 
Frontiers and Democracy in a New World Order,"  8-10 September 2008 
Roskilde University, Denmark.  The organizer has suggested a panel 
discussing the discursivity of biology and its implications for 
understanding the relationship between social practices and the 
physical body (human or animal).  Deadline for panel and paper 
proposals: 21 May 2008.
