1. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press has recently released a new
biography, Francis Crick: Hunter of Life's Secrets, by Robert Olby.
It is the first full-length intellectual biography of Francis Crick,
a greatly admired and influential scientist who co-discovered the
structure of DNA and then followed up this discovery with important
contributions that shaped the foundations of molecular biology.

2. Call for papers: "Philosophy of Scientific Experimentation: A
Challenge to Philosophy of Science," Center for Philosophy of
Science, University of Pittsburgh, October 15-16, 2010. This
workshop will focus on the philosophical analysis of the design,
structure, calibration, use and the readings of experimental
apparatus, as well as broader experimental conditions. Deadline: June
1, 2010.

5. The University of Minnesota Press announces a new book, What Is
Posthumanism? by Cary Wolfe. Cary Wolfe ranges across bioethics,
cognitive science, animal ethics, gender, and disability to develop a
theoretical and philosophical approach responsive to our changing
understanding of ourselves and our world.

6. Call for papers: The next conference of AAHPSSS (the Australasian
Association for the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of
Science) will take place at the University of Sydney, in the Unit for
History and Philosophy of Science on July 9-11, 2010. Deadline: 31
May 2010.

7. Call for papers: "Biological and Economic Modeling," for a special
issue of Biology and Philosophy. Strongest preference will be given
to papers that address parallel issues in biology and economics, but
papers focused on one area or the other insofar as they develop
overlapping themes are welcomed. Deadline: August 31st, 2010.

8. Call for papers for a book to be published by Springer on the
topic, "Origins of Design in Nature." The editors also hope to have
authors present their work at ISHPSSB 2011 at the University of Utah.

9. Applications are invited for the National Museum of Australia
Student Prize for the History of Australian Science or Australian
Environmental History. The prize will be awarded for an essay based
on original unpublished research undertaken whilst enrolled as a
student (postgraduate or undergraduate) at any tertiary educational
institution in the world. Deadline: Friday 26 February 2010.

11. Call for papers: International workshop "Human Heredity in the
Twentieth Century (A Cultural History of Heredity V)" at the
University of Exeter, 2-4 September 2010. The project aims to
uncover the technical, juridical, medical, and scientific practices
by which knowledge of inheritance was historically anchored in
different epochs and to understand the genesis of today's
naturalistic concept of heredity. Deadline: 30 April 2010.
