This is the Duluth Birding Report for September 15th, 2016 sponsored by
the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A juvenile SABINE'S GULL was found on the 15th by Peder Svingen at the
dune bridge near the Sky Harbor Airport at Park Point. Two juveniles
were seen here briefly a week earlier on the 7th. At least two PARASITIC
JAEGERS were also seen on the 7th at the dune bridge.

John Richardson found an adult FRANKLIN'S GULL on the 13th at the Park
Point Recreation Area ball fields. Jan and Larry Kraemer and Peder
Svingen saw a first-cycle FRANKLIN’S GULL on the 10th at the first
parking lot on Wisconsin Point.

Peder Svingen saw an AMERICAN THREE-TOED WOODPECKER on the 10th in the
Congdon neighborhood of east Duluth. John Richardson relocated the GREAT
EGRET at 40th Avenue West in Duluth on the 12th.

Two SWAINSON'S HAWKS were seen at Hawk Ridge on the 15th, and singles
were seen on the 14th and the 13th. More than 8,100 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS
were seen on the 13th, as well as more than 6,800 BLUE JAYS. A
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was seen at the Ridge on the 13th and two
RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were seen on the 9th.

Chris Wood and Jessie Barry saw a FIELD SPARROW on the 14th at the Knife
River Marina. They also saw a BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER and a
CONNECTICUT WARBLER on the 14th at Sugarloaf Cove near Schroeder in Cook
County. A VESPER SPARROW was seen on the 15th along Scenic Highway 61, a
mile west of Two Harbors.

The first AMERICAN PIPITS, LAPLAND LONGSPURS, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS,
and RUSTY BLACKBIRD of the season were reported on the 10th, and the
first CACKLING GEESE and FOX SPARROWS were reported on the 13th.

The next scheduled update of this report will be on or about Thursday,
September 22nd.
