This is the Duluth Birding Report for December 4th, 2011 sponsored by
the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A male HARLEQUIN DUCK was found by John Richardson on the 30th at 8th
Street on Park Point in Duluth, but it has not been seen since the 8th.
The VARIED THRUSH at 1506 Wallace Avenue near the UMD campus was last
reported on the 29th. The homeowner is welcome to having birders look
for the bird, but says to use caution if her two dogs are in the yard.

Peder Svingen saw 13 THAYER'S GULLS on the 28th on the Minnesota side of
the Superior Entry, and then soon after saw another seven at Canal Park.
John Richardson saw a first-cycle GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL on the 29th at
Canal Park. ICELAND GULL and GLAUCOUS GULLS are also still being seen at
both locations.

Ron Erpelding, Barb and Denny Martin, and others reported two TOWNSEND'S
SOLITAIRE’S on the 3rd in Grand Marais at Artists’ Point and near the
East Bay Motel. Barb and Denny also reported two WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS
and two LONG-TAILED DUCKS on the 3rd at Good Harbor Bay west of Grand
Marais. Gerald Hoekstra saw two LONG-TAILED DUCKS on the 2nd at the
McQuade Road public access east of Duluth.

John Richardson found a very late PALM WARBLER on the 28th at the
headquarters of Tettegouche State Park.
