This is the Northwest Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, May 22,
2014 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce. You

Finally it seems that summer is here With the warmer weather, the leaves
are finally starting to come out, and the migration is picking up. It
does seem that most of the warblers seem to be moving along the Red
River and also through the forested areas, leaving the majority of the
northwestern prairie areas relatively free of migrant warblers. A quick
trip to Agassiz NWR this afternoon revealed nearly all the migrants to
be those that nest there. Our yard here in Pennington County was the
same.

Six RED KNOTS were found by Mark Otnes in a large flock of shorebirds at
the North Ottawa impoundment just north of Charlesville on May 22. Other
shorebirds seen there included BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, DUNLIN,
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, WILLET,
MARBLED GODWIT, and PECTORAL SANDPIPER.

mile north of MN 11, she observed some shorebirds including a large
flock of WILSON'S PHALAROPES, some SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, MARBLED
