This is the Duluth Birding Report for July 7th, 2016 sponsored by the
Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Rubin Stenseng found a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD on the 27th at the Park
Point Recreation Area, and it was last reported on the 30th. John
Richardson found a DICKCISSEL on the 6th at the WLSSD Materials Recovery
Center off Rice Lake Road. Peder Svingen reports that DICKCISSELS have
recently been found in at least five different locations in nearby
Douglas County, Wisconsin

A RED-THROATED LOON was found on the 7th at the Tettegouche State Park
visitors' center. Peder Svingen saw one on the 30th near the Sky Harbor
Airport at Park Point.

Josh Wallestad found at least three BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS on the 4th
near the north end of the Old Sassass Road (CR 512), southeast of Cook
in northern St. Louis County. He also found a CONNECTICUT WARBLER here
on the 3rd.

Small numbers of WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS have been reported in the past
week at the Sax-Zim Bog and at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center
in Finland. Until now, there had been almost no reports of this species
in northeastern Minnesota this year.

The next scheduled update of this report will be on or about Thursday,
July 21st.
