This is the Duluth Birding Report for February 21st, 2013 sponsored by
the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

A female HARLEQUIN DUCK was found by Jan Green on the 20th at the
western end of Gitchi Gammi Park, east of Lester River in Duluth. Anne
Geraghty saw three WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS on the 19th at 22nd Avenue East
in Duluth. At least 30 LONG-TAILED DUCKS were seen on the 20th at
Burlington Bay in Two Harbors. The TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE in the Lakeside
neighborhood on Oakley Street near 47th Avenue East was still present on
the 21st.

Small numbers of BOREAL OWLS continue to be seen along the North Shore,
especially along Scenic Highway 61 between Duluth and Two Harbors. A
NORTHERN HAWK OWL is still being occasionally seen along the Martin Road
on the north side of Duluth, about a mile west of the Jean-Duluth Road.
A SNOWY OWL continues to be occasionally seen in the nighttime hours on
top of the flagpole at the maritime museum in Canal Park. Good numbers
of GREAT GRAY OWLS have moved into the area, with many sightings along
the North Shore between Duluth and Silver Bay.
