What appeared to be a first winter white-winged scoter was present at Taconite Harbor this afternoon. A loon species remained at a distance eventually disappearing into the fog. The bird appeared to be straight- billed with a dark hind neck and too delicate for common loon, too dark necked for red-throated loon. It might be worth a look if someone is in the neighborhood. Also present 5-7 horned grebes, 1 red-necked grebe.
