Yesterday afternoon when school was let out, a student found a dead Boreal Owl in the Holdingford Elementary School parking lot, near a row of White Spruce trees. My suspicion is that it roosted there during the recent weather. They brought it to me this morning for ID. I called the conservation officer, meanwhile, I am using it today in 7th grade LifeSci as a longer teachable moment about current events concerning natural histories of MN and irruptive species. mjb
